girls in trouble: the series

GIRLS IN TROUBLE: THE SERIES
brings the viewer on an entertaining journey through the world of women in Torah—and the modern artists, thinkers and healers who steward a living Judaism today— through a series of webisodes. The full first season will include seven episodes; as of spring 2025, two are completed.

Co-created by writer, musician and Jewish educator Alicia Jo Rabins and award-winning film director Alicia J. Rose, GIRLS IN TROUBLE: THE SERIES is inspired by food-and-culture shows (think Anthony Bourdain, Samin Nosrat, and Carla Hall). Each episode focuses on one Biblical woman, and Alicia guides the viewer on an entertaining & inspiring journey through the character’s struggles, triumphs, and relevance to contemporary life, including interviews with artists, scholars and culture-bearers across the Jewish diaspora.

Brough to the world by the three-women filmmaking team of Rabins, Rose, and producer Lara Cuddy, GIRLS IN TROUBLE: THE SERIES examines stories of Biblical women through a feminist diasporic lens celebrating these characters’ resilience and strength. This project follows the team’s successful collaboration on award-winning indie feature film A KADDISH FOR BERNIE MADOFF. Thanks to the Covenant Foundation for major support of this project, and the forthcoming study guides which will accompany each episode!
